Judged by the Company you Keep

But let's conduct a 30-second thought experiment: If John McCain went to a David Duke rally, belonged to a church which, through its magazine, gave Duke an award and had close colleagues who celebrated Duke's achievements would McCain still be a presidential candidate?

Well?

When the Inmates Run the Asylum

Ever since Hillary dropped out I’ve been disappointed, however it looks like Denver might just be amusing to watch after all. The Democrat’s have set their sights on running the greenest, most politically correct event possible. Things like organic-cotton-American-union-made fanny pack & ball caps (neither of which exist), biodegradable balloons, and even compostable utensils. They’ve gone to great lengths and even hired an ‘Official Carbon Advisor’ and organized 900 volunteers to function as a ‘Trash Brigade’ (ensuring recyclables are properly sorted). The PC mentality (obviously) extends to the choice of food:

… No fried food. And, on the theory that nutritious food is more vibrant, each meal should include "at least three of the following colors: red, green, yellow, blue/purple, and white." (Garnishes don't count.) At least 70% of ingredients should be organic or grown locally, to minimize emissions from fuel burned during transportation. "One would think," says Mr. Burns, "that the Democrats in Denver have bigger fish to bake -- they have ruled out frying already -- than mandating color-coordinated pretzel platters."

Ok – now not to come off as full on enviro-hater – I support recycling, nature conservancy and strong desire to help us overcome our addiction to oil (especially foreign oil), but I’m also rational and logical and recognize that many of these initiatives do more harm than good. I mean - How much energy is going to be expended transporting, parking, housing, feeding these 900 ‘trash brigade’ volunteers whose sole purpose is to make sure that the occasional compostable fork isn’t accidentally transported to the landfill where it might compost itself?

Lunch Box Police

This is actually more a problem with Socialism that plain old liberalism, but – whatever. From the ‘it takes a village’ mentality, we get this well intentioned, but utterly assinine proposal in the UK:

Under the Government's obesity strategy, all schools will be expected to design a "healthy lunchbox policy" on what makes a nutritional packed lunch over the next year.

Some parents may even be asked to sign a form agreeing to ban unhealthy foods from their children's lunches.

If a packed lunch is deemed to contain too much fat and sugar, parents could be sent warning letters or their children's meals confiscated.

And while this is happening in the UK and not the good ole’ US of A, don’t for a minute think that some career educator hasn’t already thought of this here…

The Problem with Liberalism…

…is that it runs in the face of logic - normal, common sense logic. Witness this:

Starting July 1, marijuana will be the only leaf that can be smoked in public places in the Netherlands. … Puffing a pure marijuana cigarette in public will still be permitted; smoking one with tobacco will merit coffee shop owners a $466 fine.

It’ quite obvious how they arrived at this sort of stupidity, and it illustrates how bad laws lead to worse laws. This is what you get:

(Smoking = Bad) + (Wrongly persecuting pot smokers = Bad) = Laws that allow pot smoking in public, but not tobacco.

There really isn’t much more to add to this, but at least it allowed me to create a new category called TPWL (The Problems With Liberalism) for stories like this. I suspect the majority of my examples will come from Europe as they seem to excel in this sort of nonsensical asshattery, but it will be interesting to watch.

The Beginning of the End

In 50 or so years, when they write the “Rise and Fall of the United States”, this day, and this supreme court decision will figure prominently into the Fall.

It’s over folks. We’re riding the road to hell, paved with the good intentions of intelliectual morons who lack common sense. I'm so sick I could puke.

A Confession

I have a man crush on Jeremy Clarkson. I know, you’re saying, who? And if you do know who he is, maybe you just threw up in your mouth a little. Rest assured, it’s not that kind of man crush…

First there was an article last week that said ‘the real man’, a.k.a. a ‘retrosexual’ was making a comeback. Among those men listed as retrosexuals was Jeremy.

Then, via Ace, I stumbled across this video, a clip from Jeremy’s awesome BBC television program, Top Gear:

I’m pretty sure I’ve met Billy Bob once or twice too. Nice guy once you get to know him.

If you seriously feel the need to buy a hybrid to "save the planet", do what I did (after the break)...

Cost me on $17. My fuel milage jumped about 10%, but only because I'm buying my gas in New Jersey whenever possible so as not to use the garbage 10% ethanol crap they sell in Delaware...

Real Men Ride Real Bikes

Pretenders color coordinate their kit…

And then there is just plain sad…

Please – a hybrid? In street clothes; riding on the sidewalk; with a flat; and in granny gear - just to pull the kiddies. Hope, Change (the tire)!!

Seems I’ve written about this before...

Hmmmmm...

News that she was dropping out Saturday broke yesterday. But she's not officially 'out' yet.

Then this:

Stocks tumble after surge in oil prices, surprise jump in unemployment; Dow loses nearly 400

Not quite the 500 I predicted, and that didn't consider a 200 point bump the day before. But then again, it's not official yet either...

Believe me - I want to be wrong on this. But I don’t think I will be as I’m rather sure that Wall Street will not be very confident with the idea of Obie living on Pennsylvania Avenue.

Quick Prediction - Amended

Well, she didn't concede last night. Obie says he's the nominee, but he says all kind of things that have little bearing in reality. Now the three stooges are urging all the super delegates to make their intentions known by Friday - so perhaps the dog and pony show will finally end this weekend. Somehow I doubt it – I think it's just getting started.

Anyway - I'm amending my prediction. The Dow closed down 100 yesterday to finish at 12,402.85 Between now and whenever Obie officially gets the nod (assuming he does), the Dow will lose at least 500 points (11902.85). And I'll even go out even farther. If the media continues to act as if the sun shines out of Obie's ass from now until November, and he wins (and he will unless the average Joe gets a critical looks at him), then by January 20, 2009, the market will lose a minimum of 1500 points from yesterday’s close (10902.85 for those of you not so good at math). Of course, Bush will be blamed.

Those of you too young to remember the Carter Administration are in for a history lesson.

Quick Prediction...

The wires are alive with all sort of speculation about what Hillary will say tonight. I just needed to throw in my .02;

If she in any way offers any sort of concession - I hereby predict the Dow will drop a minimum of 500 points tomorrow. Of course the media will blame it on the credit crunch and the dismal results posted by GM, Ford and Chrysler, but the real truth is something else entirely.
