The Movie MeMe

Jim tagged me, so here it is:

Total number of films I own on DVD/video:
I have to modify the question to include “we” instead of just “I” as our movie collections are already hopelessly intermingled. Anyway, we have around 40-50 dvd’s and another 40 or so VHS videos (that we’ll probably never watch again).

The last film I bought:
Team America – World Police. I really wanted to see it in the theater and missed it so I picked it up the first week it was available.

The last film I watched:
The Incredibles (for like the 10th time, and no, we don’t even have any kids yet!).
Before that though was Team America. I have to say I wasn’t really impressed with it. I love Southpark, but this movie was so far over the top as to be in another world completely.

Five Six films that I watch a lot or that mean a lot to me (in no particular order):

The Matrix (I) – The symbolism and depth of this movie is incredible. Unfortunately both follow-up movies ruined it. But the original still rocks. I once had a first date with a girl and when we got around discussing favorite movies, she said “I could never date a guy who didn’t ‘get’ The Matrix.” I married her.

The Incredibles – Again, it’s the depth of the movie. It appeals well to all ages and conveys some very cool messages. (I like movies with messages, as long as the message isn’t crammed down your throat.) This movie replaced Toy Story on my top 5 ever movies.

Almost Famous – The Rise and Fall of Rock-n-Roll can be summed up by this movie (and almost completely with this quote):

The more popular we get, the more I can't walk out on them, the bigger their houses get, the more pressure... you forget, man. You forget what it was like to be real, to be a fan. You can hear it in a lot of bands who've been successful - it doesn't sound like music anymore. It sounds like... like lifestyle maintenance.

I used to be able to hear the sounds of the world. Everything, to me, used to sound like music. Everything. Now I don't hear it. You know what I'm trying to say?

Emphasis mine.

The Usual Suspects – Just a brilliant movie – the best whodunit ever.

Life or Something Like It – Again, it’s the message.

Hunt for Red October – Best adaptation of the book. Ever.

Good point on Red October. I think that was the first movie from a book I ever watched that didn't piss me off to unbelievable heights.
